ICON Sathorn: An Elegant Fusion of Australian Landscapes and Urban Living

The Bangkok skyline has recently welcomed a new addition that aims to redefine urban living through a unique blend of Australian-inspired design and contemporary interior architecture. Supalai ICON Sathorn, a project by the well-established Thai developer Supalai Public Company Limited, in collaboration with the design firm dwp | design worldwide partnership, seeks to showcase the potential of innovative thinking and cultural integration in high-rise residential development interior design.

The main entry experience, set in an urban park, leads to a commercial lobby and Gallery Hall that combine modern cosmopolitan elements with warm copper tones, cool veined marble, and a full-height illuminated onyx backdrop. This blend of natural and urban materials creates an atmosphere that sets Supalai ICON Sathorn apart from other condominiums in the area, offering residents and visitors alike a sense of sophistication and warmth from the moment they enter the building.

Komon Suwansilp, President of Supalai Public Company Limited, states that the vision behind the project was to “create a living experience that transcends the ordinary” by bringing “the essence of Australia to the heart of Bangkok.” As the company celebrates its 35th anniversary, Supalai ICON Sathorn is presented as a testament to their commitment to delivering innovative lifestyle solutions that cater to the evolving needs and preferences of modern urban dwellers.

The interior design by dwp draws inspiration from various Australian regions and iconic destinations, creating a unique living experience that transports residents to the land down under. The co-working library, for example, is reminiscent of the Hunter Valley, with its informal atmosphere, warm material tones, and perforated panel motifs applied to glazing screens. The use of timber parquet flooring enhances the sense of intimacy in this space designed for work and relaxation, providing residents with a comfortable and inspiring environment to pursue their professional and personal goals.

Scott Whittaker, Group Creative Director at dwp, explains that the design approach aimed to create a holistic living environment that combines the raw beauty of Australian landscapes with the sophistication of contemporary urban living. The Kids Club, inspired by the Australia Zoo, features play elements and relaxation areas in light pastel tones, creating a fun and engaging space for children to explore and learn. Meanwhile, the hydrotherapy facilities draw inspiration from the Jenolan Caves, with rough cast stone walls contrasting with cool blue tiled pools, offering residents a serene and rejuvenating escape from the bustling city life.

The Opal Lounge and bar, located on the upper levels, is perhaps the most striking feature of Supalai ICON Sathorn. Inspired by Sydney’s Bondi Beach and its vibrant food and beverage scene, this space boasts a double-height glazed view and an open circular staircase leading to a mezzanine lounge. The use of copper and timber elements, along with other materials from the public spaces, creates a sophisticated ambiance that encourages residents to relax and socialise while enjoying city views. The careful selection of materials and design elements in this space reflects the project’s commitment to creating a truly exceptional living experience.

One of the key aspects of Supalai ICON Sathorn’s design is its focus on timelessness and sustainability. The use of high-quality, durable materials and the incorporation of energy-efficient systems demonstrate a commitment to creating a living space that will stand the test of time while minimising its environmental impact. This approach not only ensures the longevity of the development but also aligns with the growing global trend towards sustainable living, appealing to environmentally conscious residents who seek to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising on quality or style.

Khun Sarinrath Kamolratanapiboon, Executive Director at dwp, believes that Supalai ICON Sathorn represents a new era in urban living, one that recognizes the power of design to transport and transform. By carefully crafting spaces that evoke the essence of Australia while catering to the needs of modern urban dwellers, the project sets a new standard for residential development in Bangkok. Robert Troup, Managing Director at dwp, adds that the project exemplifies the firm’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of design and creating spaces that inspire and enrich the human experience, ultimately contributing to the well-being and happiness of those who call Supalai ICON Sathorn home.

As Bangkok continues to evolve, Supalai ICON Sathorn stands as an example of an innovative approach to real estate development. It reflects the vision of Supalai Public Company Limited and the creative talent of dwp, demonstrating how cultural richness, natural beauty, and contemporary sophistication can be combined to create a remarkable living experience in the heart of the city. With its unique blend of Australian-inspired design and cutting-edge interior architecture, Supalai ICON Sathorn is poised to become a landmark in Bangkok’s residential landscape, setting a new benchmark for urban living in the years to come.
