Introducing dwp|michael reeves

After a 20 year career creating high fashion in New York and London Michael Reeves turned his eagle-eye for style and flair to Interior Design.

Opening in London’s Brompton Cross in 1995, his first shop offered a treasure-trove of unique home accessories, vintage and antique pieces. Soon clients wanted the “Michael Reeves look,” and were commissioning him to design their homes.

Michael was then drawn literally and figuratively back to the designer’s chair with an extensive collection of upholstered furniture and case-goods. The collection was an immediate success, leading to many more major design projects. In 1998 Michael Reeves won the prestigious Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year Award.

Interior Design and the creation of luxury furniture has since become the heart of his business with clients that include Louis Vuitton.

dwp|michael reeves is renowned from Dubai to New York, China to the UK. With exceptional design at the core of the collaboration, dwp|michael reeves signature collection grows the global footprint and continues the tradition of making the best even better.

Mayfair London

This project shows yet another aspect of the versatility of dwp|michael reeves. Architectural interest was added to the entrance lobby with plaster mouldings to the ceiling and a rich colour palette, inspired by the newly installed limestone floor pavers. dwp|michael reeves armchairs upholstered in a luxurious embroidered linen, add comfort and opulence. Finally a huge antique mirror was hung to visually open up the space. Deeply carved Italian gilded console tables purchased at Sotheby’s and an electric candelabra sit beneath a large abstract painting.

Adding scale to the drawing room are carved busts that sit on marble plinths between the windows and a huge silk pleated lampshade on the library table. Huge mahogany double doors open up the dividing wall between the rooms in the 18th century French style salon. Mouldings, window shutters and the Versailles parquet panel floors were added.

A carved, gilded mirror was hung above the original fireplace and dwp|michael reeves upholstered seating in silk with heavy fringe on sofas and ottoman finish the room. A newly added staircase services all floors, faced with heavily figured, antiqued limestone, hand forged steel balustrades and highlighted with gold leaf.

Notting Hill Apartment

dwp|michael reeves dramatically altered the footprint of the apartment to allow the double aspect windows, overlooking the communal gardens, to shed light into the large, open living space. Mirrors were placed to reflect the light and enlarge the space. The bedroom suites are separated via a hallway and lobby. Discreet storage was added for uncluttered comfort. New wood floors were stained with a grey pigment throughout the apartment accessorised by colourful rugs.

Quirky decorative furniture and objet mix with the clients important “political” art: a stainless steel Paul Evans vintage credenza sits happily with a dwp|michael reeves designed sofa and vintage armchairs sit on a colourful Rug Company carpet. The bathroom is lined in white metro tiles with a custom oval shower curtain rail. The master bedroom is decorated in tones of white and parchment. Accent furniture and light fixtures combine metal hues: brass, nickel, copper and bronze. Finally, the guest room has hand painted and embroidered custom wall coverings in aqua tones with glamorous satin draperies and accent orange velvet swivel armchairs.

Eaton Square

An apartment in need of total refurbishment and restoration was converted laterally and two drawing rooms added to the apartment. The main drawing room now flows seamlessly through vast double doors into the master bedroom suite. The second drawing room was fashioned into a comfortable reception room and office space. The existing ceiling mouldings and wall panellings were replaced and new wood floors laid. Tones of taupe and soft grey finish the wood floors and walls and integrated the spacious rooms. Window treatments throughout were kept simple with curtains on nickel poles and simple Holland shades.

The custom kitchen, down wide stairs from the main hallway lobby, can be closed off with lacquered bi-fold doors in a soft parchment colour, with stainless steel accents. A sense of scale was important so a few large furniture items and accessories were selected to decorate the rooms. In the main drawing room a large pair of gilded mirrors flank the fireplace.

Elaborate antique console table accessorise the sofa and an outsize daybed; from dwp|michael reeves furniture collection. Sitting on a wool and silk blend rug designed by dwp|michael reeves for The Rug Company, are a pair of Ralph Lauren cane-work armchairs that add a casual note. A large armoire displays overscale celadon and white porcelain vases. The master bed upholstery and bedside lamps are from dwp|michael reeves design, and the night stands are vintage Ralph Lauren re-finished in lacquer.

Notting Hill Studio House

Moments from the bustle of Portobello Road in a gated area in Notting Hill, the house faces a wonderful garden. Sliding doors open up the rear of the house to invite the outside, inside. Graphite coloured eel-skin wall covering, clads the entrance lobby and contrasts with grey marble slab floors. In the light and airy living area a pair of asymmetric sofas curve around a circular cocktail table for easy conversation.

A flight of stairs is partially hidden behind huge geometrically patterned mirrors. The upper living room with vaulted ceiling has garden views. The colour palette throughout the house is grey and taupe; with a focus on texture. Matte painted walls, high gloss lacquer doors, boiled wool sofa fabrics, polished marble, mirror, long pile rugs, velvet, linen and gauzy semi-sheer curtains provide this textural interest. The furniture is all from dwp|michael reeves, with some additional vintage accents.
