Signature Restaurant, Discovery Primea

dwp were requested to create the interiors for the signature restaurant, on the 16th floor of the Discovery Primea in Manila; Makati’s new prime luxury condominium development.

Our concept of a ‘kitchen in the sky’, features a central hub, to allow guests to be seated around these areas, to feel part of the cooking process as they observe chefs at work. The restaurant offers an informal atmosphere, but with meticulous attention to detail, reflecting its approach to cuisine. The selected colour palette is neutral and sophisticated, with some vibrant punches of colour injected.

The floors are detailed timber, while the hub sports a houndstooth black and white encaustic tile. The entry is flanked by a splendid wine wall and displays a unique light/planting feature. This spiraling installation enveloped the host station for visual drama, while forming a screen to the bar behind.

The external ‘garden terrace’ features a bar, with relaxed, comfortable seating, ideal for pre and post dinner drinks, with the feel of being in a ‘garden in the sky’, by night.

Alfresco 64 Whiskey Bar

Alfresco 64, Chivas Bar, on the 64th floor of the Tower Club at Lebua, is the highest outdoor whiskey bar in the world. Whiskey connoisseurs and novices alike and can enjoy the ultimate whisky drinking experience while soaking in magnificent views of Bangkok’s city skyline and the Chao Phraya River.

Sleek nautical lines and the iconic luxury of super yachts were dwp’s inspiration for Al Fresco 64. The benchmark design required three zones: an indoor area, with lacquered rosewood flooring and sunken seating, allowing guests to sink into the refined luxury of a yacht lounge and bridge. Meticulously crafted from curved wood and accentuated with silver, the bar counter is an outstanding focal point that mirrors dynamic maritime lines while showcasing Bangkok’s best views.

The second zone is a VIP lounge for special events and tastings. And the piece-de-resistance feature, for which the bar is named, is the outdoor area. With teak wood floors it extends out over the side of the building like the prow of a super yacht. A glass balcony offers unobstructed views making Al Fresco 64, literally and figuratively, one of the top bars in Thailand.

Belon Oyster Bar & Grill Banyan Tree

Architecture and interior design firm dwp were commissioned to create the interiors for the new Belon Oyster Bar and Grill, evocative of an underwater experience. From the glass arrival stairs, descending into the specialty restaurant, guests pass a waterfall and custom kinetic artwork, via a long, low, elegant reception to arrive at the Oyster Bar. Shapes and details inspired by aquatic forms of scallop tails, jellyfish, waves and spiraling shells, envelop the entirety.

From the bar, a whalebone arch corridor leads into the dining rooms with double-height starlit ceilings. The focus of the dining spaces is the curvaceous grill bar and fresh food display. Gently glowing privacy screens encircle dining tables, set beneath sinuous blown glass chandeliers. The wine cellar, private dining and cigar lounge spaces are just beyond.

The interior finishes are natural stone, rich timber and coloured glass. Warm materials are illuminated translucent aqueous features and beaded panels. Custom made curvilinear furniture pieces are upholstered in an oceanic tonal colour palette. The private dining rooms are clad in full double-height wall timber paneling and surrounded by tall flowing drapery.

1832 Tea Lounge by Ronnefeldt

As an expert in high quality teas, the 1823 Tea Lounge by Ronnefeldt aims to provide a refined atmosphere for enjoying one of the world’s most popular drinks. Ronnefeldt turned to dwp to provide a design that epitomises sophisticated tea drinking culture. Customers sit at stylish two person sofas set into an alcove formed by a wall covered in classic antique tea drawers. An elegant gold vaulted ceiling rises in the centre of the room above a free-standing white marble table display. The large window opens up onto the front of the shopping mall, advertising the tea lounge to passersby. Stained glass sections provide shelving for decorative tea related items.

An elegant, long black marble and glass display counter runs the length of the tea lounge. Behind this is a tea library and storage wall that is both decorative and functional. The floor features a striking marble pattern that provides an elegant feel to the whole tea room. dwp also provided specialist lighting design that gives the 1823 Tea Lounge an added sophistication.

Osha Thai Restaurant

San Francisco brand, Osha, engaged dwp to create the interiors for their new restaurant in central Bangkok. Presenting a US based Thai restaurant to the home of Thai cuisine, posed an interesting challenge. dwp used the brand’s contemporary twist on Thai food and the ancient mythical Thai creature Hanuman as design influences. The result is an opulent dining experience set over two levels with external spaces; featuring a changing atmosphere between day and night, and exciting visual effects.

Striking 3D projections enliven the restaurant’s ceiling and the outside of the building, providing an ever-changing canvas of artwork. The tones are dark with highlights of rich gold leaf and a Thai-inspired colour selection. Dramatic highlights include an entrance clad in a gold laser-cut patterned screen, through which light is projected for a stunning visual effect on entry.

The main space is double-height overlooked by a mezzanine level, featuring a circular platform clad in gold leaf. A staircase winds around the side of the bar up to the platform and features a custom made, scaled up reproduction of a ‘Chada’, an elaborate traditional Thai headpiece, covered in gold leaf, mirrors and coloured jewels. Made by a traditional Thai sculptor, it provides a dazzling, authentic centrepiece.
