ibis Styles Bangkok Silom

The new hotel in Bangkok’s business district, just a stone’s throw away from the famous Lumpini Park, will definitely be a popular choice for all types of travellers and the exciting F+B offering is sure to draw in the local crowd.

The area is known to attract a more younger and ‘hip’ crowd therefore dwp explored more funky thai design concepts. ‘Thai Style festival’ was the overall driving inspiration for the property and each area of the hotel represents different Thai elements through design, colour and patterns. The property represents a journey through Thai culture with each area portraying a different experience and story.

Colour is an important part of Thai culture and is used to represent and respect different beliefs. Thai people use auspicious colours in their decoration for prosperity, dpw integrated this concept into the design, particularly the lobby area displaying the concept of ‘colourful culture’. The use of beautiful timber walls is a perfect contrast to the colours and are crafted with Thai patterns and details to create an impactful first impression.

Westin Yoma Central

dwp was engaged to undertake the redesign work for the new build Westin Hotel in Yangon. The brand identity is focused on complete well -being geared to provide a thoughtful guest experience with signature offerings striving to fuel and energize the space to ensure a “better you.” The arrival lobby, lounge and bar were designed with the core philosophy of well-being by inclusion of natural materials and elements in their true form to integrate nature into the space.

This had to be infused with a minimalist and tasteful choice of patterns that evoke natural imagery and combination of intimate, warm spaces along with expansive vantage points of guest gatherings.

The guestrooms and suites were designed to echo this core concept of biophilia complemented with a modern residential aesthetic inspired by the beauty found in nature.

Courtyard by Marriott North Pattaya

dwp has been engaged to design Courtyard by Marriott North Pattaya Hotel. The new state of the art lobby, the patterns of the public areas derive from the gentle, natural patterns that occur on the sea and the beach.

Combinations of mid-tone materials, with limited accent colors that complement these natural tones, create a calm palette. The opalescent sheen of the inside of an abalone shell is the inspiration for a light-toned banquet room and pre-function. Due to the limited size and connection of natural light, this inspiration results in a palette that uses tone-on-tone for upper surfaces, contrasted by the organic patterns in the carpet. A slightly deeper shift in tone from the public area color palette creates a rich environment. Clean lines and driftwood-color furniture create a calm palette under the bright Pattaya sky for the pool area, and pool bar. A simple wood-pattern frame defines the bar and primary seating area as a cabana, adjacent to seating under parasols

The aesthetic is modern contemporary with art feature; freeform light sculture, sand dune art pattern, mosaic art wall. These combination create the vibrate atmosphere.

Be Well Spa, Movenpick BDMS Wellness Resort

The design concept for BDMS Wellness Resort Bangkok is “The journey to Rebalance + Reconnect”. The design takes inspiration from Park Nai Lert, a city forest well-known for its large trees, embodying a peaceful atmosphere surrounded by nature. Traditional Thai healing philosophy that sees the four elements as the foundation of life is also referenced to make the space more suitable for the healing and treatment process.

Materials are selected with a focus on durability and aesthetics. A variety of materials are used, including a natural colour veneer to create a warm and comfortable environment, contrasting with textured wall coverings for a more luxurious feel.

The design adheres to the Sustainable Design concept by utilising LEED-certified, non-VOCs, and durable materials for long-term usage. The design also takes into consideration the natural environment of the location, full of old trees, and works closely with an engineer and landscape team to maximise the use of natural resources.

W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island

W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island has taken pole position as the Middle East’s leading design hotel. A dynamic property built around Arabian tradition, from pearl diving to kufic calligraphy and a desert in full bloom. This distinctive luxury hotel is high on visual impact – a destination for those who dream big and live loud.

dwp completed the refurbishment of the Lobby & Public Areas, F&B and WET Deck to bring to life what is now the second W Hotel in the Middle East and the largest W Hotel in the world.

The design brief was to develop a multi-layered narrative which addresses the cultural, social and historical context of Abu Dhabi, in an innovative way that depicts the bold & witty attitude of all W Hotels. Strong storytelling design runs throughout to ensure that all guests feel a sense of connection to the place.

The design reveals the best of the destination’s history, heritage and culture while infusing elements of its modern future. Guests are greeted by Bedouin-inspired tents, large columns and seating inspired by local mangroves. Custom-designed Welcome Desks mimic the form of oil droplets and jewel tone furnishings, depicting the colors of liquid gold, a distinctive historic trade in Abu Dhabi. Show-stopping Whatever/Whenever desks are canoe-shaped, a visual reference to the Abu Dhabi waterways and once the mode of movement across the city.

For the F&B offerings, dwp brought to life an eclectic dining experience with Garage, a one-of-a-kind a la carte food hub with a buzzing, botanical design driven by five unique mini concepts: Steam Table serving up noodles and dumplings, Nikkei House offering Peruvian/ Japanese cuisine, Mezza Bar focusing on Lebanese mezze, Meat Vault offering grilled cuts, and Tart Van serving delicious tarts.

Fast and furious was the name of the game in more ways than one and dwp successfully utilised a collaborative value engineering process with the contractor, client and operator to overcome an accelerated time-frame and short window to design & deliver this iconic project in time for the 2019 F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

W Dubai – The Palm

For the W Dubai, dwp looked to the iconic features of the Middle East for inspiration. Scott Whittaker, dwp’s Group Creative Director, said: “We took unique attributes of Arabic culture, as well as the location at The Palm, and melded them into a W experience. The exciting challenge and opportunity with this project was to create that quintessential W hotel feeling of rebellious, distinctive luxury; while drawing from Middle Eastern culture. To offer the unique sensual experiences of the location while maintaining that special sense of ‘W’.”

W Hotels are ‘labs of creation’ and the design is all about taking risks and breaking boundaries. W is fun. Wherever you are in the hotel, it should be ‘wow’. Young, friendly, dynamic, 24 hours. So that it doesn’t feel like you are in a normal hotel. The interaction is different. The whole experience of being in a W should be enjoyable.

W is WOW so every space to be unique’.
Everywhere is a selfie-spot.
Everywhere is sprinkled with stardust

Avani Resort

Our work to renovate this rebranded resort enriches its sense of place and echoes the serenity of a setting surrounded by mountains, sand and sea.

Taking our inspiration from the resort’s name, which stems from Sanskrit for earth, dwp has captured the soul of Avani with neutral browns and beiges, punctuated with pops of purple.

Contemporary artwork, skilful workmanship and simplicity set the tone for a dialogue between the beautiful hotel and its beachside backdrop.
