dwp Profiles Gillian Blair

From Young Designer of the Year to Senior Designer of dwp Middle East, Glaswegian, Gillian Blair’s renowned talent is taking her on a career trajectory. The multi-award winning designer was described at 2017’s Commercial Interior Design Awards (where she walked home with Young Designer of the Year trophy) as: “Having an extremely mature portfolio with an ‘elegant, sophisticated and timeless’ design aesthetic.”

Gillian first arrived in the Middle East in 2012. “At my university degree show, I met the Associate Design Director at dwp. Within one month I was in my first role at the company in Bahrain.” She recently returned to the fold and is now Senior Interior Designer of dwp Middle East. Blair rejoins the company with a wealth of Middle East experience. She says: “I am currently working on a five star hotel in North Jeddah for an established Spanish operator. She is also working on a tech-savvy immersive sales experience gallery where guests are taken on a sensory journey into the future. Clients experience the touch, taste, and views of the sunset ports of their villa, via 4D immersive projectors that are located throughout the sales gallery. Gulls fly overhead while waves lap on the sand. She says: “Our motto is: “You really do have to see it to believe it”

Meanwhile Gillain is also monitoring construction onsite for a local heritage hotel, and a landmark five star hotel for W Hotels. “What excites me about these projects is diversity. I get to wear several hats throughout my working day; from 2 star brand cultural heritage, to five-star luxury,” she says. “Interior Design in our region is limitless. Our clients dreams are as big as our own.”

Gillian hopes to lead young designers on the exciting journey that dwp has to offer. She says: “After all, I was in their shoes not so long ago”
